Is it worth staying in Valletta rather than Sliema?

If museums, architecture and evening atmosphere matter more than swimming, yes. Valletta gives you the shortest airport transfer and the city to yourself after dark; Sliema is better if you want daily sea swims.

Can I park in Valletta?

Parking inside the city is very limited and partly restricted. Most guests skip the car entirely, or use the park-and-ride at Floriana.

Are Valletta apartments suitable for families?

Many are, but buildings are historic and often without lifts. Tell us your group and we will point you to the units that work best for children or reduced mobility.

What you get in Valletta

Grand Harbour and the Upper Barrakka

The gardens above the harbour give the best view in Malta, with the saluting battery firing at noon and 16:00.

Museums, theatre and food

St John's Co-Cathedral, MUŻA, the Grand Master's Palace and Teatru Manoel are all walkable, as is Strait Street's line of bars and small restaurants.

Evenings after the day-trippers

Cruise passengers leave by late afternoon. Staying in Valletta means having the streets and the harbour views largely to yourself.

Ferries and Three Cities

Ferries cross to Sliema and to Birgu in minutes, giving you two more waterfronts without a bus ride.

Getting around

· Airport is about 20 minutes by taxi — the shortest transfer of any Malta base.
· Every Malta bus route passes through the central terminus outside City Gate.
· Ferries to Sliema and the Three Cities run from the two harbours.
· Valletta is pedestrian-friendly but hilly with steps — worth knowing when choosing a floor.

When to come

Valletta is a year-round city. Spring and autumn are the most comfortable for walking; February brings Carnival and Valletta's cultural calendar runs all winter.
